China Merchants Bank HQ in Shenzhen
Foster + Partners has unveiled images of the ongoing construction of the China Merchants Bank HQ in Shenzhen, which has now reached its highest point. The building’s design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese paper folding for its southern facades, representing the country’s rich cultural heritage. In contrast, the northern facade boasts a simple form, creating a captivating visual contrast. Grant Brooker, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners, expressed that the new tower will be a unique addition to Shenzhen’s urban fabric and a lasting symbol of China Merchants Bank. The building’s broad curved windows offer breathtaking views of Shenzhen Bay and are designed to capture the warmth of sunrise and sunset, ensuring that the tower’s appearance is ever-changing. The exterior of the tower, combining glass and stainless steel, is designed to minimize energy consumption while providing a striking aesthetic. The mixed-use development on the south side features a range of facilities that complement the urban area, fostering a strong connection with nature through the incorporation of water features and greenery.
